Holy Crap, I'm Old!

I celebrated a milestone birthday last week, so I believe I am no officially old as dirt. I don’t feel old. Well, OK that’s not entirely true. My back is always sore, my vision is going to pot, and I don’t relate to music like I used to. So I guess I do feel old.

But then again, I still participate in all the active things that I’ve loved to participate in. I can’t imagine doing an Iron Man length triathlon or competing in water polo anymore, but I still play softball twice a week and I’d play hockey if I could find the time. The annual Thanksgiving flag football game is still on the docket, so I’m not THAT old, am I?

Sonya threw me this fantastic party to celebrate at Manresa Beach over the weekend. It was attended by about 60 people, which really made the day special. We boogie boarded, played in the sand, and ate & drank. Then we ate & drank some more.

I have to say that spending time with my friends is one of those things that I really enjoy more and more as time goes by. Losing Lars last month really struck a chord. Without family & friends, life is pretty hollow. Spending more time with everyone needs to become more of a priority in my life.

I realized how lucky I am, to have as many friends as I do. I can sincerely say that I could not have thought of a better way to chalk up another year.

Not sure if people were saying this to be polite, but it seemed that most folks enjoyed the locale. It’s been our “secret” for a few years, so it was cool to be able to introduce it to so many good friends. I hope they all pay a visit on their own, because it really is a special place.

We love the beach so much, we’re spending three days there again. This time, we’re camping with a few friends a few miles down from Manresa at Sunset State Beach. The kids love camping, so combining that with sun & surf, and you may just have the perfect summer trip. Sunset is less than an hour from Sunnyvale as well, so we don’t have to drive a million miles just to camp.

Pince Crest Lake in Sonora is awesome, but it’s a 3 hour drive. Sunset is only 45 minutes away. Can’t beat that when you’re trekking little kids with you. Ooh, it that me sounding old and crotchety?

I Love July

IMG_0399

I love July. It's my favorite month of the year. Yes, my birthday falls in July, but that's not the reason I love it. July to me means spending time with the family and friends, being outside, warm sunny days, the beach, baseball games, and vacations.

The 4th of July is my favorite holiday. It reminds me of being a kid. I love fireworks. Fireworks remind me of my childhood, lighting them off in the street with all the neighbors kids. The 4th of July means the Redwwod City Parade, which I love, no matter how grumpy it makes Sonya.

July means cherries, which means cherry pie...my favorite dessert. July means the San Jose Grand Prix...a big time race in my own backyard!

July means going to places like Pine Crest Lake, one of my favorite camping places in the world. We spent a few days there the year before last with our friends and all the kids. This year, we're going to Sunset Beach to camp for three days...in July.

July means I can wear shorts and not get funny looks from people (like I do when I wear shorts in December). July means flip flops, which I have recently been reintroduced to.

July means the baseball and the All Star Game. I used to think they were playing the All Star Game in honor of my birthday whan I was a kid. At least, I used to tell people that. My birthday typically falls within a week of the all Star Game, so there must be a connection!

July means fun in the sun. There's always something to do in July.

I love July.
