Quick Hits

Seeing that I've had little time to post anything, I thought I'd post a few pictures with short blurbs on each. OK, here we go...

A&A at Yahoo!
Annkathrin & Andrea at Yahoo

Here is Annkathrin and Andrea visiting Yahoo! on their way to the airport. They didn't have a chance to visit in the first two weeks of their trip because of the hectic schedule that they had. On their last day in town, my mom brought them by so we could go on a tour of the Sunnyvale campus. They enjoyed it...I think.

Last Day of School!!!

Karsyn wrapped up 1st grade with a great report card. It's incredible how quickly the school year has flown by, but we now have a 2nd grader enjoying her summer vacation. This is the marquee in front of Karsyn's school.

2nd Graders Get a Treat

Sonya and a few of the moms at K's school took the girls out to lunch after school got out and they were also treated to a pedicure at the local nail salon. Karsyn got her nails painted pink (what else) with a daisy flower added to her big toe. I must say I'm quite impressed with the things thos epedicurists can do with a paint brush.

Ry Ry Raises the Cup
Ry Ry Raises the Cup

Finally, I watched Game 7 of the Stanley Cup on Monday night. It was dissapointing not to see the Sharks hoisting the Cup after getting bounced by the Oilers in the 2nd round of the playoffs this season. The Sharks had the team to do it all, but they ran into some bad luck. Ry Ry made the best of a bad situation by raising his own Stanley Cup while the Carolina Hurricanes skated around the ice with the real thing. Hopefully we'll get to see the real thing in San Jose next season.

Andrea & Annkathrin

IMG_1802

My cousin Andrea and her daughter Annkathrin spent two weeks vacationing in California recently, so we got to spend some time together. Andrea is a doctor in Germany, living in a small town not far from where my mom grew up.

Sonya played tour guide and took the two of them and Karsyn down to Southern California to do the Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Disneyland thing. This was Karsyn’s fourth trip to Dland in the past two years. Not bad when you’re six I suppose.

Annkathrin is on the verge of becoming a teenager, so she wanted to go to Hollywood to see if she’d run into Johnny Depp on the street. Unfortunately for her that commie pinko lives in France (lucky for all of us), so she’s actually been closer to him than we have this whole time. She did get to take a picture in front of his hand & foot prints at Mann’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

When the foursome returned, we spent some time at the beach. We did Manressa in the morning, did lunch in downtown Santa Cruz, then took the kids to the Boardwalk to end the day.

I couldn’t believe how nasty the Boardwalk had become. It was filthy. The people all looked like they were on weekend leave from Folsom. It wasn’t the same Boardwalk that I knew as a kid.

The kids all seemed to enjoy it though. They rode a few rides and soaked in the carnival atmosphere.

I heard that Andrea and Annkathrin went back for more later in the week with my mom and sister. It was a busy couple of weeks for them, visiting a number of relatives and seeing the sites. Their stay seemed to fly by, ending far too soon. We’ll just have to take a vacation to Germany as soon as the house is in order.
